Provenanced, Rare .69 Confederate Trans-Miss Civil War Bullet - ARKANSAS HOG
CollectionHero
According to "Towards a Hierarchy of Civil War Bullet Rarity", the Arkansas Hog rates 8 out of 10. It is the heaviest of the Trans Mississippi types, one of the most highly desired bullets in the entire hobby, and one of the more scarce. New collectors are going to be immediately attracted to the sheer size, cold pour marks, angular profile and deep grooves exhibited on good specimens Research by hobby savant Skip Mayorga suggests that these projectiles were used in Model 1851 Austrian carbines used by Confederate forces after their disposal by Federal forces in Kansas. The Arkansas Hog was popularized by Meigs Brainard, who noted three variations. Type I, the most common, is the tallest with a slightly more pointed nose. Type II examples will feature a squarish, flattened nose and a deep plug cavity and Type III, the rarest, a flat nose with a deep cone cavity. This example is a Type III.The Arkansas Hog’s footprint is limited to late war Confederate Cavalry sites, primarily in Arkansas. They are found in the wake of General Frederick Steel’s Camden Expedition and at sites associated with the Red River campaign and Missouri invasion by Confederate leaders General Sterling Price and Brigadier General John Marmaduke. No examples are known east of the Mississippi River. This is McKee and Mason 608 and Thomas and Thomas 190c.This example was found in Poison Springs, Arkansas and further provenance will be provided to the buyer. This sale is for the .69 Arkansas Hog pictured, and not the entire frame. Please also see the .54 Fagan I am offering. (Condition: Pre-Owned)

Rare Civil War Remington Single Cavity .58 Caliber Minie Ball Bullet Mold.
CollectionHero
eBay Offered is an extremely rare example of Civil War era .58 caliber Minie ball bullet mold, among the earliest examples of a mold attributed to Remington and the first U.S. single cavity rife bullet mold I’ve offered. It is in excellent condition with no damage and an overall pleasing chocolate patina. The perfect minie ball cast from this mold is included. The plug is a replacement based off of a historical similar example. It’s the only one I’ll be offering and would make a unique addition to any Civil War collection as these are very, very rarely found in any condition. Shipping includes priority mail to make sure it gets to its new honeymoon in time for Christmas! This mold is assigned the 2nd highest rarity (R4) in the wonderful reference book ‘Reloading Tools of the Black Powder Era’, by Tom Rowe and Ed Curtis. Two mold similars to this example are pictured in volume 2 of the book series (reference the attached pictures). This mold has been carefully oiled and wiped off with a clean cotton cloth. Each mold goes through approximately 20 minutes of casting, examination, and careful museum grade care. This attention and work (using just a high quality gun protectant oil and a clean cotton cloth) helps prevent rust, lubricates the hinges, and prepares it for presentation.I ship worldwide; please if your county isn’t an option message me. Shipping includes priority mail, tracking and a hard box to ensure safe delivery. 95% of my auctions ship within 1 day of payment received. Please check out the multiple auctions I’ve listed which includes antique BGI shotgun tools, antique powder measures, antique wad punches, Civil War bullet molds/moulds, all sorts of flasks, bayonets, rare pre Civil War to CW leather accoutrements, bullets, buckles, and other rare affordable through high end items. Civil War Colt’s Patent M1860 Army 44H 6-Cavity Serialized #58 Gang Bullet Mold.
CollectionHero
Offered is largest bullet mold (nearly 3 pounds!) that Colt produced during the Civil War; the M1860 Army gang mold (molds shipped to arsenals to supplement the ‘44H’ pocket-sized bullet mold). These were produced starting in early 1860 through approximately late 1864 with a production run I believe of less than 350 examples. Each mold was serialized and this mold is no different, with a number ‘“58” stamped on the right brass ferrule as well as uncommon sub-inspector marks of “G” where the mold body starts. The right mold block has the correct “44H” marking. It opens and closes effortlessly. A double digit S/N such as this one has indicates a very early Civil War manufacture Numerous reference books mention that many early examples of this gang mold were delivered to the South, and in fact Dean Thomas’ Confederate Arsenals, Laboratories, and Ordnance Depots 3-book compendium notes Confederate/CS arsenals heavily utilized Colt bullet molds for their war cartridge fabrication effort. The handles are entirely intact with both end pieces perfectly fitted. Marks throughout from use but no dry rot or splitting like unfortunately often seen. It is likely post war marked on each side of the mold block (fading) ‘457 VI’. This mold has solid cavities and would be a phenomenal Civil War display piece or to cast .44 Army bullets to accompany an original revolver.I ship worldwide please let me know if your country isn’t showing as an option. Shipping includes a hard box and tracking. 95% of auctions ship within 1 day of payment received. I will automatically combine shipping and send a refund of excess additional shipping upon payment. Each additional item costs $1 to ship (US only - international combined shipping at exact rate). Please check out the multiple auctions I’ve listed which includes antique BGI shotgun tools, antique powder measures, antique wad punches, Civil War bullet molds/moulds, all sorts of flasks, bayonets, rare pre Civil War to CW leather accoutrements, bullets, buckles, and other rare affordable through high end items. Fantastically Unique Pre Civil War ‘Colts Patent’ Marked .22 Caliber Bullet Mold
CollectionHero
Phenomenally rare offering; so rare research into both Rapley books cover to cover yield no information as to its history. Without a doubt it is a Colt mold, but unique in every regard. Likely part of a cased high end set; perhaps a special high class woman’s gun, or gamblers pocket pistol. The mold is a 3-cavity .22 caliber round ball mold. It has ‘scissors’, but created in an exact and careful manner that I’ve never seen firsthand or documented (rather than cutting over, each scissor half cuts but lines up perfectly over each other when closed). The scissors feature is of English inspiration, possibly related to the Colt London factory. At the end of each handle is a tool; one being a small perfect nipple wrench, the other being a slight hook, likely to remove barrel wadding. The lead pour channel to the 3 cavities is unique and without a sprue cutter. The only inspiration or similar use elsewhere I can point to was early 1850s US Arsenal molds, like the earliest Sharps factory gang molds. Last but certainly not least, this mold has ‘Colts Patent’ stamped on the right handle. 3 items of interest here: this manufacturers stamping appears done as 2 word set, not individually lettered. This font appears like other Colt fonts, and is unquestionably correct for Colt. It is the smallest font I’ve seen on any Colt molds. Finally, the stamp itself points to early 1850s Colt markings, as it is without an apostrophe seen in later ‘Colt’s Factory’ molds. There has been speculation on this mold that the ‘Colts Patent’ stamp is 2 stamps because it utilized the same marking tool as used on Colt’s percussion nipples.Note this is not a Colt Open Top bullet mold, given the Percussion nipple /combo tool wrench handles, round ball mold (doesn’t make sense for a .22 cartridge), the Open Top didn’t use percussion caps, and the likely late 1840s / very early 1850s design & scissors sprue cutter (also no known molds). This was definitely part of a cased set but the rest is a newly discovered chapter of a Colt mystery! This is a beautiful and unique bullet mold not featured in either Rapley Colt books, and I can confidently say will be the only example of this mold you will ever see or get a chance to own. I can attest from personal experience that molds or rare offerings like this are terrible to miss out on but worthwhile to acquire Pictures of the individual item listed are of exactly what you’ll receive. I ship worldwide; please if your county isn’t an option message me.Please check out the multiple auctions I’ve listed which includes rarely found high end cased set tools (for percussion pistols, rifles, and revolvers), 19th century cartridge extractors, wad punches, cartridge sizers, bullet molds/moulds, early 1800s-Civil War US buttons, bullets, CDVs, and rare high end items from the George Moller estate. Civil War Colt’s Patent M1860 Army (44H) 6-Cavity -Serialized- Gang Bullet Mold
CollectionHero
eBay Offered is largest bullet mold (nearly 3 pounds!) that Colt produced during the Civil War; the M1860 Army gang mold (molds shipped to arsenals to supplement the ‘44H’ pocket-sized bullet mold). These were produced starting in early 1860 through approximately late 1864 with a production run I believe of less than 350 examples. Each mold was serialized and this mold is no different, with a number ‘79’ stamped on the right brass ferrule. Unlike most examples of this mold, this one shows evidence of very heavy use - and not simply age related neglect. The brass ferrules are dark brown from high heat, and the sprue cutter tip has taken on a hammered shape from heavy use cutting sprues when very hot (evidence of a definite high volume arsenal history). The ‘44H’ is also faint but definitely visible on the right mold block. The handles have cracks as shown but are solidly in place. They leave a black residue so there might be some old polish on the wooden handles. One has evidence of possible early glue to prevent further lines. I wish the South marked their tools as I couldn’t imagine a Northern arsenal using a tool so diligently. While in less than ‘perfect’ shape this tool is an excellent candidate for documentation reference on what one would expect to see from a mold with Southern wartime arsenal provenance!I haven’t had one of these for a few years so please don’t miss the opportunity to acquire it for your collection, as a gift, or an early Christmas present!I ship worldwide please let me know if your country isn’t showing as an option. Civil War Era Colt .44 Bullet gang mold
CollectionHero
This .44 gang mold was likely produced to make bullets for Colt Model 1860 Army revolvers and is marked "89" on the right grip ferrule and also has small "S" stamps on each arm. The main body of the mold and the grips are unmarked. The mold is designed for making six conical bullets with grooves. Molds like this were commonly issued to military units to produce bullets for multiple men as opposed to issuing the single or dual cavity molds used by individuals.

GANG MOLD for CIVIL WAR COLT (?) PISTOL, ORIGINAL ESTATE FIND, NICE SHAPE, RARE!

Today I can offer for sale a really nice example of a classic Civil War vintage "gang" bullet mold for black powder, percussion pistol rounds, featuring 6 (six) cavities, 5 of which appear to be in .36 caliber, whereas the first  cavity was  bored out slightly larger, perhaps for .44 caliber? The mold is in very nice original condition, basically being "attic" brown throughout, with solid wooden handles, and integral sprue-cutter which shows only minimal hammering. I can find no markings extant on this particular mold, and although I've been advised that due to its configuration, it

There are different markings in various places, one is the letter H on the upper right side(very distinct), another on top where the lead is poured into the cavities is the No. 20. Very crisp cavities, would cast bullets today. I never cast bullets just collect the molds. Opens and closes very smoothly. This
